In December of 2008 Brian Hartenstein and family left America for an adventurous life overseas to live and work throughout Asia, raising three daughters with a sense of wonder and awe at the possibility of the world. It is now 2016 and the adventure continues back home in Oregon. This blog remains as a time capsule to that period. Thank you so much to all our friends around the world. Please stay in touch. We miss you all!

Feeding the Monks, Early Morning in Inle Lake
Arising early in Inle Lake and jogging through the frozen darkness down gravel paths I came upon the monks in single file line. The footage here will become a later episode of hartensteinabroad called, "Feeding the Monks."
They pass each morning by the Teakwood Inn, leaving the monastery in burnt red robes, carrying earthen jars to be filled by villagers along the road with rice.
I wanted to follow them, these young barefoot boys, but thought better of it. I'll file that away for...some other day... such a perfect sight to come upon. Good luck, boys. Fill your stomachs. Others too.
