A Year of T-Shirts and Jeans

Dear Reader,

Thank you, 2016.  It was a good year to be away.  When you realize the world has passed you by, you can either catch up or let it go.   So, I kept it pretty slow and steady.  Thank you for a year of backpacking with my kids, for books and travel, and the stunning beauty of American nature.  Happy New Year, Everybody!

The Thousand Enemies of El-ahrairah

(Brian Hartenstein Jumping in the Black Hills.  U.S.A. Travel)

"All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you.  But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning.  Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed."  -Watership Down, Richard Adams

2016 Update:  Cruising the Rockies with the girls in the minivan of our American Dreams, stopping in the South Dakota Badlands, heading for parts unknown.  Thanks for the emails everyone.  I miss you all.

Yossarian 2016

"After he made up his mind to spend the rest of the war in the hospital, Yossarian wrote letters to everyone he knew saying that he was in the hospital but never mentioned why. One day he had a better idea.  To everyone he knew he wrote that he was going on a very dangerous mission.  'They asked for volunteers.  It's very dangerous, but someone has to do it.  I'll write you the instant I get back.'  And he had not written anyone since."  - Catch 22

Happy New Year, Everyone.

Welcome Back, Oregon!

Let the adjustment back to normal life... begin.  Welcome back, Oregon!  Whether it's going for a jog through the forest in sub freezing temperatures...
Or trying out a new Sunday Experience...
Tackling American style sushi...
or stumbling through local shopping malls...
or book store shelves...
I'll be keeping a pretty low profile...
But if you see me around... promise to say, Hello!
